As part of Canada’s Technology Triangle, Kitchener boasts a true mix of traditional and new economy businesses. In addition to the many local routes, GRT operates GRT iXpress routes. These are designed to transport riders along the fastest, most efficient route with fewer stops along the way.

The Charles Street Transit Terminal located 15 Charles St. W. in downtown Kitchener, is the hub for many Kitchener-based Grand River Transit routes. Satellite hubs are located at:

The Freeport Site at 3570 King Street East, Kitchener is GRH’s location for complex continuing care, rehabilitation programs, several outpatient clinics, satellite renal services, specialized mental health, and more.

GRH’s Kitchener-Waterloo Site at 835 King Street West, Kitchener provides cancer care, critical care, emergency services, laboratory medicine, maternal-child programs, medical imaging, medical programs, inpatient mental health, paediatric care, pharmacy services, renal services and surgery.

At 850 King Street West across the street from the KW Site, a number of outpatient mental health services are offered.

St. Mary’s General Hospital is also located in Kitchener. It is a 191 bed adult acute care hospital with Centers of Excellence in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, Thoracic Surgery and Respirology, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Ophthalmology and Urology.

The University of Waterloo’s Downtown Health Sciences Campus also includes the Centre for Family Medicine and an integrated primary care clinic, where new doctors train and where a family health team includes physicians, nurse practitioners and other health professionals.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Education in Kitchener” tab_id=”1574797353739-22441fc5-6aa3″][vc_column_text]In Kitchener, education is supplied through the two school boards; the Waterloo Region and Waterloo Catholic District School Boards. Residents of Kitchener can readily access two of Canada’s leading universities: the University of Waterloo and Wilfred Laurier University which have their main campuses in Waterloo just a short distance away. Within an hour’s drive of Kitchener, residents have access to a full range of other universities and community colleges.

Kitchener itself is home to the University of Waterloo (UW) health sciences campus in downtown Kitchener, which is anchored by its School of Pharmacy. Wilfred Laurier University (WLU) Faculty of Social Work, which also is located in downtown Kitchener, offers professional social work programs at the master and doctoral levels.

For those interested in corporate training and professional development opportunities, the University of Waterloo’s Centre for Extended Learning located on Gage Street in Kitchener can provide the certification and skills needed to build careers and expand horizons.

Kitchener is also home to the widely-respected Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. Conestoga delivers more than 200 career-focused programs, and a range of degree offerings, including Ontario’s only college-based, accredited engineering degrees.
