Public Transit

City of Stratford Transit provides public transportation within the city with half-hour service Mon-Fri 6am-9:30pm. Transit service for city factories is provided Monday to Friday. Parallel Transit provides a shared ride service for persons with disabilities who are unable to access Stratford Transit.

Trains & Busses

VIA Rail offers passenger rail service from Stratford westward to Sarnia and Windsor, via London and eastwards to Toronto. The VIA Train Station is located at 101 Shakespeare Street.

Roads

The city is linked to Canada’s major transportation artery, Highway 401, by Highway 7/ 8 or by Perth Road 113/County Road 6.

Air

Stratford is within a 1.5 hour drive, of four international airports. This includes Toronto’s Toronto Pearson International, London International Airport, Region of Waterloo International Airport, as well as John C. Munro, Hamilton International Airport.

The Stratford Airporter provides a shuttle service between Stratford and Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.

Health Care in Stratford

Residents of Stratford have access to hospital services through Stratford General Hospital located at 46 General Hospital Drive. This 132 bed facility, operating as part of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance, provides general and specialized short-term care, diagnostic, long-term treatment, emergency and out-patient services.

The Emergency Department is located in the East Building on the first level. Patients should enter using the Emergency Entrance on Cambria St.

Stratford is also home to two Family Health Teams. Family Health Teams consist of doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners and other health care professionals who work collaboratively, within a clinic to coordinate and provide primary health care.

For those in need of help in finding a family physician, Health Care Connect (1-800-445-1822) may be able to help. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) also has an online database that maintains a list of medical doctors authorized to practice medicine in Ontario.

Education in Stratford

For families with children and youth in Stratford, elementary and secondary schools are operated by the Avon Maitland District School Board, and the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board.

Stratford also offers a range of specialty and continuing education programs, and research opportunities to further learning, foster creativity and develop careers.

University of Waterloo – Stratford Campus offers programs that are unique in Canada, and that combine creativity, business and technology. The focus is digital media in teaching and research. This includes: a Bachelor of Global Business and Digital Arts and a Master of Digital Experience Innovation. The Stratford Campus is located at the corner of St. Patrick and Cooper streets – two blocks from downtown Stratford.

Located on the site of the Stratford General Hospital at 130 Youngs Street, Conestoga’s Stratford location provides academic upgrading, career-focused programs and a host of continuing education opportunities.

The Stratford Chefs School is the only culinary institute in the country that is operated by working restaurant professionals.
