Building Certification Requirements
The Certified Rental Building Program was designed to ensure the highest level of accountability and respect with tenants, members, and industry stakeholders. It has four primary requirements:
1. Mandatory Standards of Practice
Buildings entered into the Program must be able to meet the Standards of Practice. These standards cover a wide range of prudent and professional building management practices that ensure rental-housing consumers are receiving quality products/services when selecting their apartment. Consumers can have greater peace of mind knowing they have selected a well-run, well-managed building that provides both a quality product and quality service when they select a branded Certified Rental Building for their apartment home.
2. Mandatory External Audits
A respected third-party auditor firm, J.D. Power and Associates, has been engaged to complete the building audits on behalf of the program. Use of an independent third-party auditor ensures credibility with the rental-housing consumers and outside stakeholder communities that buildings entered into the Program are in strict adherence with Program’s Standards of Practice.
3. Mandatory Training & Educational Requirement
It is mandatory that building management staff (responsible for the daily operations of a building) attend the Certified Rental Building Program’s Property Manager’s Training & Education course. Improving the knowledge and professionalism of staff involved in the daily operation of a Certified Rental Building goes hand-in-hand with raising the quality assurance standard across our industry.
4. Customer Support
The Certified Rental Building Program is committed to making it easy for tenants to learn about the program, to inquire about it, or to provide their feedback.
Tenants can obtain more information about the Program or a building’s status in the program through the following:
- Tenant and Prospective Tenant brochures are available at all Certified Rental Buildings
